Il nome del nuovo SUV firmato Porsche è Macan, parola indonesiana che significa tigre; è una combinazione di potere, fascino e dinamica, sinuosa come il temibile felino unisce le caratteristiche di un'auto sportiva con i vantaggi di un SUV, mantenendo perfettamente l'identità Porsche; il nome evocativo e simbolico difatti suona bene in moltissime lingue, coinvolge e rimanda ad associazioni positive. Con il Macan la casa vuole raggiungere l'enorme successo ottenuto in precedenza con il modello Cayenne; sarà prodotta nello fabbrica di Lipsia in Sassonia (Germania) a partire dal 2013.
Per la nuova linea di montaggio, la Porsche ha dichiarato di aver investito 500 milioni di euro e che a medio termine saranno creati più di mille nuovi posti di lavoro. Questo nuovo SUV compatto deriverà dall’Audi Q5, ma avrà ovviamente uno stile adatto al marchio sportivo Tedesco.
