Ford presenta una nuova versione esclusiva basata sulla mitica Mustang, la nuova Shelby GT500 Cabriolet in onore dei 20 anni della divisione SVT.
I primi modelli marchiati dal logo SVT sono stati presentati al Salone di Chicago vent'anni fa:  le storiche Mustang SVT Cobra e F150 SVT Lightning. Notevoli evoluzioni del mondo e del mercato automobilistico hanno ''trasformato'' la F150 SVT nella Raptor, che ha sacrificato la sua sportività per far posto alla praticità; la Mustang SVT Cobra, d'altra parte, è rappresentata ora dalla Shelby GT500 Cabriolet.
Il divario è più che significativo: 415 cavalli separano la SVT Cobra dalla nuova Mustang Shelby. Si passa quindi dal V8 5.0 litri atm da 235 cavalli al recente V8 5.8 abbinato a un cambio manuale a sei rapporti, in grado di erogare ben 650 cavalli grazie all'ausilio del compressore: ciò consente alla vettura di raggiungere i 320 km/h. Si è cercato di migliorare anche i consumi riducendo di oltre 3 litri per km rispetto ai precedenti prodotti.

Tutta questa potenza è da apprezzare all'aperto grazie alla capote in tela pieghevole automatica. Cosi la Shelby GT500 dimostra di essere una vera muscle car cattiva e aggressiva come lo era un tempo senza rinunciare al sistema di frenaggio assistito così come ai pacchetti più sportivi Performance Package e Track Package, disponibili su richiesta.
Si è cercato di migliorare anche i consumi riducendo di oltre 3 litri per km rispetto alle precedenti motorizzazioni.
